My name is Corinne Dawson, and I am a Pilates instructor at Galter LifeCenter. Hopefully this blog will help you get to know me and help you learn more about Pilates.
A bit about myself first…I have been in love with movement my whole life. I grew up in the Chicago area, and went to University of Iowa for my bachelor’s degree in history and dance. After college, I danced professionally for several years, and within that time I became interested in Pilates and returned to Chicago to pursue training formally. I was first certified through a Pilates-based program in 1997. After teaching for a while, I learned that there were several different styles of Pilates and sought to become certified in the most classic form of the work. After completing a lengthy apprenticeship, and rigorous testing with Romana Krysanowska, I was certified in 1999. Since then, I have been a Romana’s Pilates instructor here in Chicago, and for a few months in Tokyo as well. I will always consider myself a student of the work.
As a Pilates instructor, I have the honor of meeting many people, and watching bodies change. I also often have the honor of getting to touch people’s lives just a little bit. (I have always claimed that I learn more from my clients than they learn from me!). Pilates is a major part of my life, and defines many of the choices I make. Watching people change the way they move and develop a deeper awareness of their physical self is a true gift. In starting this blog, I hope to share some of my experiences as a Pilates instructor and help people see what the work of Joseph Pilates encompasses.
Tip of the day: When starting any new fitness class, especially Pilates, please let the instructor know if you have any injuries or pain so that the proper modifications can be suggested.
>Come meet me at our Pilates Open House this Sunday, November 14 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
