Today is all about hearts

In honor of Heart Health Month and Valentine’s Day, Well Community is focusing on heart health on many different levels.

On the sappy side…
Check out this long-term love story that was recounted in the Chicago Tribune. It’s about a Central Illinois couple who recently celebrated 80 years of marriage. Although not quite a world record, the longevity of their relationship was the perfect story to melt our staff’s hearts this Valentine’s Day (even though the couple has never celebrated the holiday!).

On the physical side…
Did you know that the details of a heart healthy diet, exercise level and weight fluctuate as you age? For example, a woman in her 20s does not have the same nutrition and vitamin needs as a women in her 50s.

But no matter your age, there are steps you can take to be heart healthy.  At the American Heart Association’s “Go Red For Women” campaign website, you can find heart healthy tips specific to your age.  Click here to check out the site. We thought the targeted advice was pretty neat.

On the medical side…

Dr. Kamran Aslam, electrophysiologist at Swedish Covenant Hospital, will speak about the latest trends and developments in caring for your heart. He will then give tips on how to decrease your stress and make your body more relaxed through Heart Math, a biofeedback technique centered on breathing.
