Saying goodbye to holiday weight gain

It happens every holiday season. We enjoy the company of family, friends and colleagues, and of course, all that delicious holiday comfort food.

Although they are wonderful in the moment, these little indulgences can lead to more than a little weight gain in the new year (Just ask Kate Kinne, Well Community's blogging dietitian!).

For years, Ronna Feldman, 63, was no exception to this trend. And then she decided to do something about it.

The Buena Park resident believes she has found the secret to staying in shape and maintaining her weight through the holiday season: the Galter LifeCenter Holiday Survival Challenge Program.

During this program, Galter LifeCenter, Chicago’s only certified medical fitness center, challenges members to maintain or loss weight between mid-November and mid-January. Like on NBC’s “Biggest Loser,” participants weigh in at the start of the challenge, and at the end.  If they have maintained or lost weigh, they win a prize (as well as the knowledge that their fitness levels “survived” the holidays).

Watch this 2-minute video from the 2009 Holiday Challenge, and follow Ronna through the first stages of program.
