It’s remarkable to think about all that our local community has to offer. Within a mile radius we can enjoy world-renowned music from the Old Town School of Folk Music, world class cooking instruction from The Chopping Block, world class chefs from Goosefoot and Arun’s Thai (and countless others), and even world class chocolates at Beijo de Chocolat. Adding on to that list, the local community also features world class spine care from the Chicago Back Institute at Swedish Covenant Hospital. Well, I couldn’t forget that, could I?
Recently, the Chicago Back Institute at Swedish Covenant Hospital produced television commercials, currently airing on The Food Network, HGTV, ESPN, Lifetime, and other networks. These commercials were deliberately shot locally, featuring some of the favorite local spots. As a community hospital, it was important for us to highlight our own neighborhood and showcase real-life patient stories. Many of our doctors live in the local neighborhoods (including one of our Chicago Back Institute neurosurgeons, who lives right in Lincoln Square), and staying connected to these communities – either through community wellness events or tv commercials – is important to us. It was also important to showcase our connection to these community businesses, many of which have partnered with us on local events or other past projects.
You can view the commercial here, but I thought you might also like a sneak peek at some candid shots taken during the filming.

In the coming months, we will also feature Swedish Covenant Hospital’s DaVinci robotic surgery program through television commercials, including some of the DaVinci robotic surgeons who are performing state of the art women’s and men’s health procedures, and the latest robotic thyroidectomies. Stay tuned.
PS-Our commitment to local runs deeper than just the sights in front of the camera. The production company we chose to work with on this project is Dreaming Tree Films – they’re located in the heart of Ravenswood and (outside of their commercial services that we enlisted) specialize in documentary film and also providing teens with hands-on exploration of the creative filmmaking process through their foundation.
So, back to our local focus - what’s your favorite local spot? Is it a hidden gem or does everyone know about it? Share your thoughts, and who knows…they just might end up a part of our next commercial or wellness event.
