The North Side Inside and Out

SCH doctors and staff complete obstacle race

For me, the busier (and more stressful) my schedule is, the less time I have for exercising...which is exactly when I need it. Exercise makes me feel good, inside and out, so finding ways to squeeze it in is really important. If I can have fun while exercising, that's a bonus. That might mean taking a kickboxing class at Galter LifeCenter with a friend...or for some people, registering for an obstacle course. Have you heard about these challenges? What a cool way to stay fit, get dirty and have fun!

A few days ago I was talking with Dr. Kamran Aslam, an electrophysiologist at Swedish Covenant Hospital. In October, he and others from the hospital (including one of our newest physicians Dr. Kristin Dziadosz-Jones of our Mayfair office) completed the Spartan Race - 3.5 miles of rocky trails, deep ravines, fire, water and other built-in obstacles. The doctors, health professionals and friends formed a team and ran the race together. It provided a great venue for camaraderie, teamwork and physical and mental challenges. Plus, they were practicing what they preach - by incorporating exercise as one component of a heart healthy lifestyle. The proceeds went towards a great cause too - cancer research through the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Awesome work, guys!

Have you completed an obstacle race course like this before? What was it like? Would you do it again? I might have to put it on my to-do list for 2012...
