Have you heard about the latest cool healthy food contest for kids? Last week, Michelle Obama announced a recipe contest for children. Kids are challenged to create a lunch recipe that is healthy, affordable and tasty, and it must include most of the recommended food groups. The contest is part of the First Lady's Let's Move! campaign and is open to kids ages 8 to 12. Winners will be selected from each state/territory and honored at a special gala dinner for kids at the White House in August. The deadline for entries is June 17, and you can learn more here.

It seems like a good time to also mention a related local business that I've highlighted before - Purple Asparagus (the organization that provides healthy, hands-on nutrition education to children and families) is involved in a worthwhile event on Friday, June 1 at the Hyatt downtown. As a matter of fact, the dinner benefits Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution and Purple Asparagus. Let me tell you, the five-course menu looks amazing and if you've never met Melissa Graham of Purple Asparagus now's the time. Learn more and register here.
