Chicago Back Institute

Moving to Swedish Covenant Hospital

Sixty-five years of combined medical experience. Specialty interests ranging from minimally invasive spine surgery, total disc replacement, complex spinal reconstruction, peripheral nerve surgery, pain modulation surgery, spinal cord injury research, other clinical research, medical product development, to brain tumors. Two surgeons from east and west coasts reunited over five years ago. The third surgeon reuniting from the south after 10 years.

Excitement, enthusiasm, and respect for the opportunity.  Honor and humility for the patients that provide us this opportunity.

Where did we come from?

Dr. Boyer was born in Pennsylvania and trained primarily throughout the east coast before settling in Kentucky. He is Chief of Neurological Surgery and Director of Neurosciences at one of the largest, busiest, and most awarded hospitals in Kentucky. He comes here with two boys. One artistic and musical, the other athletically inclined; traits shared by their father. Dr. Boyer performs the complete array of neurologic surgeries, specializing in intracranial, pain modulation, peripheral nerve procedures and minimally invasive spine surgery.

Dr. Geisler is returning home. Born in Chicago and raised in Evanston, he spent his time training throughout the east, and the majority of his neurosurgical life in Chicago and the Chicagoland area. That is except his time spent traveling the world lecturing on his research. No surprise as he started his adult life as a nuclear physicist and engineer. With his children all enjoying their professional lives, he and his neuro-opthomologist wife look forward to their Chicago return. Dr. Geisler specializes in complex reconstructive spine surgery, spine arthroplasty (motion preservation) and minimally invasive spine surgery.

Dr. Laich lived in Chicago for the majority of his adult life; although he has trained and worked from coast to coast. Born in IN, this is home. He specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery including true endoscopic spine surgery, spine arthroplasty(motion preservation), and complex spine reconstruction. His prior athletic life provides extra interest in caring for the injured athlete. Involvement in the arts and the entertainment industry has aided in his airtime with WGN News and other medical reporting. He travels extensively for spine lectures and conferences.

Enough for now...more to follow.
