One Well Community staff member is surviving winter by planning her garden and attending seed swaps like this one.

It is only February but the occasional stints of 40 degree weather have the Well Community staff buzzing with thoughts of spring and plans for how they will survive the rest of the winter.

Check out the ways our staff is making it to spring, and chime in with your own ideas in the comments section below.

“I’m getting more involved with the folks at the Peterson Garden Project and planning my garden. I’m also planning to attend an edible seed swap in March, which will keep me busy until the ground thaws for good. ” — Leigh Ginther, editor-in-chief

“I bought a new sunscreen (and coconut lip balm) from Alba and it’s sitting on the bathroom counter just ready for use. I like any fruit, mango or coconut scents to help launch the season.  I’m also planning my summer reading.”  — Sally Krenger, marketing coordinator

"I’ve been eating better and looking up grilling recipes.” — Rachelle Ducanes, photo and production editor

“I’m trying to get out as much as possible so I don’t fall into winter “hibernation.” Even though it’s cold out, being out and active helps make it feel like summer — and having an activity to look forward to always helps. Within the next few weeks, I have plans to go to the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio tour in Oak Park, reservations with friends at Pizza Art Café in Lincoln Square, and a date with State Street for shopping.” — Angela Fornelli, managing editor

“I’ve been researching a new bike online and bought some new workout clothes.  I also got a haircut at Mops in Logan Square. It's a fresh start, just like spring cleaning.” — Laura Prusik, web and production editor

“I’ve been trying out new cookbooks and recipes that my boys can help me with in the kitchen.” — Dawn Carlson, project coordinator for Community Relations

“Since my boyfriend and I are big sports fans (and rivals), we purchased tickets for the Cubs/White Sox game and the White Sox Ozzie package (Go Cubs!).  I’ve also been filling up my online shopping carts at my favorite sites with sandals and summer dresses to eventually purchase when the weather warms up.” — Monique Sheibley, physician liaison

“I bought a couple Groupon deals for mani-pedis and I’m planning to cash them in this spring.” — Jenise Celestin, manager of Community Relations

“I’ve been looking into dates when local farmers markets start, and toying with the idea of signing up for a CSA program (like Harvest Moon Organics) to get weekly produce packages straight from the farm this summer and fall. I also booked a flight for Puerto Rico over Memorial Day weekend!” — Tracy Hernandez, senior staff writer
